The Difference Between A Nutritionist and Dietitian

What is a Nutritionist?

A nutritionist is a person who counsels people on matters of food and their health effects. Some people specialize in certain areas, such as sports nutrition, animal nutrition, public health, and other fields. Nutritionists primarily work with individual clients.

What is a Dietitian?

A dietitian (or dietician)is a professional in human nutrition and diet regulation. A dietitian varies their patient’s food based on their individual needs. Dietitians are regulated healthcare experts certified to evaluate, analyze, and solve nutritional concerns. Dietitians often work with both individuals and groups.

Dietitians don’t just follow the newest trends in nutrition and make general suggestions to their patients. Instead, they design nutrition programs tailored to an individual’s dietary needs and medical conditions. In many cases, dietitians work in the health industry to help ensure appropriate practices are in place.

Dietitians have earned a college degree, professional license, and professional practice certification.
